Project SPOC

"Supporting Proof of Concept"

Introduction

This program is a spinoff of a preceding programming concept called BAAN (Biomimicry and Art of Aeronautics in Nature competition). In its original format, BAAN did not get off the ground due to COVID restrictions in the schools. S2Inc decided to further hone the program's elements in a COVID-independent format. Teams organized through the schools will research and develop the biomimetic drone portion of BAAN, virtually. Teams' efforts at supporting proof of concept shall be known as Project SPOC.

A maximum of 15 teams representing schools in Broome County, Oneida County, and Onondaga County participated in the Year 1 Cohort. Six (6) teams participated in the Program Event on June 11, 2022.

A student launches their team's MetaBird towards the obstacle course as another teammate (not visible) operates the controller.

A team of three flies its MetaBird near the obstacle course. | Notice something odd about the drone's configuration? This team discovered that the wings were 'interchangeable' with the MetaFly and they created a Franken-drone, as it appears here!
